A number of papers have been published over the years along with new developments within the BFLEX framework, see list below.
Two flexible pipes have been instrumented with strain sensors on the outer tensile armour layers for verification of BFLEX stress results. Refer to the publications at OMAE 1998 and 2002. Another pipe was instrumented with fibre optic sensors on the inner tensile armour layer. The results for this test compared to BFLEX analysis results are reported in a paper in Computers & Structures 2011.
During the Test JIP run by Shell Rijswik, 16 flexible pipes were dissected and inspected for failure after full scale fatigue testing. The performance of BFLEX is shown in the table below.

Refer also to the Examples section of the BFLEX2010 User Manual. In this section, BFLEX results are compared to moment-curvature test results for different modeling approaches eithin BFLEX. For lateral buckling of armour wires under compression, BFLEX results are also compared to results reported in other publications.
